Death toll in C China plant accident rises to 11

ZHENGZHOU, June 23 -- The death toll in an industrial safety accident at an aluminum plant in central China's Henan Province has risen to 11, as rescue work ended on Thursday.

The accident happened at around 4:50 p.m. Wednesday, when 23 workers were dismantling a settling tank in the Henan branch of the Aluminum Corporation of China.

In addition to the 11 dead, another eight were injured. Two are still in critical condition.

Kong Nianlin, one of the survivors, said as he fell his safety belt caught something on the wall.

He said many of his co-workers were not wearing safety attire.
