China started the third minesweeping mission along China-Vietnam border since November, 2015. In over 200 days since then, 18,000 explosives have been removed. The mission covered 30 townships in six counties in southwest China’s Yunnan province.
More than 400 soldiers from the PLA Chengdu Military Area Command took part in the mission in Yunnan to remove the explosives left during the 1979 China-Vietnam War. Conducted in the Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, this is the PLA’s third demining mission along the border. Previous sweeps were conducted between 1992-1994 and 1997-1999.
