A ceremony for unvelieing the uniforms to be used by the Chinese delegation in the Rio Olympics was held in Suzhou on May 31, 2016. Often being called “fried eggs with tomato” jokingly, it will be the third time that this style of uniform will appear in the Summer Olympics.
The uniform for the Chinese delegation in the Rio Olympics has a male version as well as a female version. The male version includes a red coat, a white shirt, a patterned tie, white trousers and white shoes; while the female version includes a yellow coat, a white shirt, a patterned silk scarf, and a white skirt along with white shoes.
As the sponsor of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Hengyuanxiang Group provided the uniform for Chinese delegation participating in the Beijing Olympics and the following two Summer Olympics.
It is a Chinese tradition to wear red cloth during celebrations. "We hope our athletes will feel like they are wearing our national flag when they step into the stadium at the opening ceremony," said the designer Ye Chaoying.
