Shaanxi Transmission and Distribution Company, the northwest branch of China's State Grid Corporation, completed the lifting of the 1,000-kV ultra-high voltage (UHV) Yuheng Switching Station Structure yesterday. The maneuver was carried out by a 260-ton crawler crane and a 50-ton automobile crane.

The 1,000-kV UHV transmission project is one of 12 key transmission channels for the country's Atmospheric Pollution Prevention Action Plan. It links Yuheng, a special zone in northwest Shaanxi province, with Weifang, a city in eastern China's Shandong province. It also constitutes one of the world's largest-scale AC power transmission projects and is China’s longest high-voltage power transmission channel.

The channel starts at the Yuheng switching station in the city of Yulin, and extends all the way to the Weifang transformer substation, passing through northern China's Shanxi and Hebei provinces.

Newly built transformer substations in the cities of Yuheng, Jinzhong (Shanxi province), Shijiazhuang (Hebei province) and Weifang feature transformer capacities of 15,000 mega volt amps. The Yuheng–Weifang transmission channel has a total length of 1,048 kilometers.

The capital required to build the transmission channel is estimated to be 24.2 billion yuan ($3.73 billion). Upon completion, electricity will be transported to Beijing and Tianjin, and will even travel as far as Hebei and Shandong to help meet electricity demands further afield.
