Breathtaking photos show tens of thousands of budgies form a “green tornado” as they flock over a shrinking waterhole in the Australian outback.
British photographer Paul Williams, the producer and director at the BBC Natural History Unit, captured the spectacular scene when the budgie tornado moved in desperate search for scarce water in the heart of the country.
Mr. Williams and his crew had embarked on a journey to track down the murmuration of the birds forming over the waterhole.
For seven early mornings, they watched as the incredible budgie tornado unfolded before their eyes until a thunderstorm swept through the desert. With the rainwater everywhere, the birds finally dispersed and the great event was over.
