Editor's note: Five years ago, high-speed railways were not a means of transportation for ordinary people, and people only thought of GPS when referring to satellite navigation. China: 7 percent of arable land feeds 22 percent of the world's population

In 2014, a team led by Yuan Longping, known in China as "the father of hybrid rice" set a record for hybrid rice production with an average yield of 1,026.7 kilograms per mu (0.0667 hectares).

The new progress surpassed the 1,000 kilogram per mu target set by the Chinese Agriculture Ministry in 2013, indicating that China is leading the world in research on hybrid rice technology and also providing technical support for national food security strategies.

In 2013, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a license to China's three mobile carriers, China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom, for the TD-LTE standard—the fourth generation (4G) telecom technology. The core technology was independently researched by China.

Currently, there are 102 operators joining the 4G/LTE services launched by China Mobile, and Chinese subscribers can access roaming services in more than 100 countries.
