RIYADH, Jan. 2 -- A Saudi-led coalition battling the Shiite Houthi group in Yemen announced on Saturday the end of a cease-fire that was announced on Dec. 15, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The coalition cited continued Houthi violations to the truce as a reason to end it.

The Houthis continued to carry out missile attacks against Saudi cities and target Saudi positions on the border, in addition to hindering the flow of humanitarian aid to Yemenis, it added

The end of the truce is effective as of 2:00 p.m. local time (1100 GMT).

It was enforced upon a request by Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi to reach peaceful solution to the country's conflict.

Saudi Arabia has been leading a war against the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen since March 26 to bring stability back to the country that was torn by civil war.
