China evacuates last batch of citizens from Yemen

BEIJING, April 6 -- China has moved the last batch of 24 Chinese nationals from Yemen's western port of al-Hodayda to Djibouti on Monday, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Due to the worsening security conditions in Yemen, the working staff remaining at the Chinese Embassy in Yemen have also left the country, after assisting the last batch of Chinese nationals to evacuate. The Chinese Embassy in Yemen has temporarily closed.

The Linyi naval vessel, which is responsible for the evacuation of the last batch of Chinese nationals and the embassy working staff, also carried 45 Sri Lanka nationals, at the request of Sri Lanka government.

The vessel left Yemen's western port of al-Hodayda at 06:10 pm Beijing Time. The 24 Chinese nationals were transported from Yemeni capital Sanaa to al-Hodayda port after over five hours' drive.

Nine Chinese citizens and one Japanese citizens are expected to be evacuated from Yemen' s Socotra island later Monday aboard another Chinese naval vessel Weishanhu.

Eight Chinese national have left Yemen on board a Pakistani vessel earlier.

Up until now, all the 613 Chinese nationals who wished to leave Yemen have been evacuated by the Chinese government. China also assisted 15 countries to evacuate 279 citizens.
