A research team at Kunming Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, led by Hu Xintian, is using rhesus monkeys to study the effects of LED light sources on living organisms. The macaques were divided into groups of six to eight, according to LED light color, intensity, time and purpose of the experiment. The research aims to find factors that affect human health in the long-term.
Besides studying the safety of LED light sources, the research team will also study connections between LED lights and vision, sleep rhythm, mood changes, and myopia in teenagers. The results will be released in the next two or three years.
