Job fair held for blind people in Beijing

The first job fair specially for blind people took place in the Beijing Talent Development Center on Oct. 10, 2015. A total of 33 employers had 185 jobs on offer. The average monthly salary was 3,000 yuan, with the highest being 10,000 yuan.

Employers included a piano technology center, hotels and massage centers with jobs available such as piano tuner, telephone operator, keyboarder, sales support, art editor, network maintenance and customer service operator. Xiao Gao, a blind person who has signed contract with an information and technology company to work in customer service, told the reporter that many blind people are piano tuners or massage therapists, but they want to have some breakthroughs in terms of careers and work as salesmen, customer service staff and other positions. 

According to Beijing Disabled Persons Federation, Beijing had a total of 53,000 people with visual impairment in 2014. This job fair is the first one specially held for blind people in Beijing. The Chinese government has preferential policies for enterprises that hire blind people with allowances allocated to enterprises according to the number and degree of disability of the blind people they hire.
