The military parade marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War had come to the end, but September 3 will always be engraved as a special day on the heart of Lu Caiwen, an 89-year-old veteran who participated in the grand military parade.

Though it has been 70 years, all the memories about the resistance war are still vivid to Lu. In 1942, 16-year-old Lu Caiwen witnessed the fall of his hometown, Tengchong of Yunnan. He joined a class in Dali hosted by the Huangpu Military Academy. After graduation, Lu was appointed as a lieutenant in the army and collected intelligence during the war.

Lu became a teacher in the following 40 years after he left the army. In 1987, he retired from school, and started to enjoy his twilight years. Lu keeps a very healthy and regular life. He loves calligraphy and drawing, and always pays attention to the news around the world.

As a veteran representative of the west Yunnan, Lu feels very proud and excited. "I have been looking forward to this day a long time ago. I am honored that I had the chance to fight against the Japanese and defend my country. It is my greatest honor. And I am also lucky enough to witness today’s China."

"I am more than happy to see our country get stronger and stronger. But I hope our people would never forget what we had been through in the war time. Keeping the history in mind, seeking for better development and cherishing the peace we have."
