Two-year-old Aylan Kurdi was taken by his parents to a fleeing trip from war-wrecked Syria, in search of a safe home, when the small fiberglass smuggler boat ship sunk and the boy was drowned with his mother and brother.

The toddler’s body was later washed ashore in Turkey. A reporter took the picture of the little prostrating body on the beach. In the picture, Aylan Kurdi looked like any other sleeping child of his age, bottom raised a bit, head tilted to one side and belly showing, except that he was all drenched on a shore.

The heart-wrenching picture is now spreading all over the world’s social media.

“There is nothing to do except taking his photograph,” said Nilufer Demir, the reporter, “there was nothing to do. And that is exactly what I did. I thought this is the only way I can express the scream of the silent body.”

Many cartoonists took up their pens, and draw portraits of the little body. In most of the cartoons, the boy is simply asleep.

“I don’t want anything from anyone anymore,” says the father, Abudullah Kurdi, the only Kurdi who survival the trip, “I will sit by my wife and children and read them Quran until I die, God willing.”
