
Johannesburg, August 14 (People’s Daily Online) - The Wits Great Hall in Johannesburg was filled with wonderful melody of traditional Chinese music last night, with a delegation of around 60 children from Shanghai Yangpu Children’s Palace Students’ Art Troupe visiting South Africa and giving a special concert for the Year of China in SA.
They performed in various forms of orchestral folk music, orchestra plucked string music, Er-hu emsemble, trumpet concerto and chorus. A South African song Wa Ka Wa Ka played with traditional Chinese musical instruments amazed the local audience, which drew a perfect end for this gorgeous night.
Shanghai Yangpu Children’s Palace Students’ Art Troupe has more than 20 years’ history since its establishment. It has achieve top awards in many international and domestic competitions and toured around many countries, including America, Austria, Czech Republic, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Russia, Britain, Singapore, Malaysia, and now in South Africa.
Being the Little Envoys for the Year of China, the Art Troupe will visit historical sites, experience local custom and culture, and carry out cultural exchange with students from the Crawford College during their staying in SA.
