The defense of Sihang Warehouse took place in 1937 and marked the beginning of the end of the three-month Battle of Shanghai during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Colonel Xie Jinyuan led Chinese soldiers to hold off the Japanese until the main body of the Chinese army withdrew. Holes left by shells and bullets can be seen on the memorial wall.
