90% students studying abroad opts for return to China

China’s Ministry of Education released a report recently, saying 90 percent of Chinese students studying abroad in 2014 chose to return to China for future careers, a sharp contrast to those who went abroad in the previous decades. It shows that the total number of Chinese students studying abroad reached nearly 460 thousand in 2014, an increase of 11 percent compared with previous year.

The report shows that Chinese overseas students trend to go abroad at a younger age, and more and more middle school students plan to study abroad with Canada and U.S. the top two destinations.. It also indicated that the average budget of oversea studying reach between 30 to 80 thousand US dollars.

In choosing schools or colleges, most Chinese students and parents pay attention to their rankings. More than half of them would like to enter into Top 100 ranking universities and a lot of them have proved to be qualified for those prestigious colleges.

The report also shows studying abroad is not an option only for few wealthy families in China any more,42% of the overseas students come from China's middle class families and most of the parents don't have an oversea background.

According to the report, most of the overseas students don't have immigration intentions. 90 percent of them said they would come back to China after study, among which, 39 percent would prefer to have a short working experience in foreign countries before coming back.
