Seaman’s life: Spend eight months out of a year on board (6)

June 25, 2015 is the fifth Day of the Seafarers. China had 608, 000 registered seamen as of the end of 2014. Their hard work contributes to flourishing maritime trade and tourism. Lan Mu is one of them. He has been doing this job for 20 years. 

Lan Mu is the first mate of “Xinjianzhen” steamship. On the Day of Seafarers, family members of seamen were invited to see the work environment on board. Everything on board is fresh for Lan Mu’s wife.

Lan Mu spent eight months out of a year working on board a cargo ship before 2008. He had to go to the sea for work just several months after his daughter was born in 2002. His wife has taken care of the whole family alone. Though he can’t be with his family all the time, he is the best in the eyes of his family members.
