BEIJING, June 24 (People's Daily Online)–Do you want to appreciate the Sculptures and paintings of the Dunhuang Mogao grottos online? Or do you want to purchase tickets for visiting places of interests in Gansu, Qinghai provinces online? "Intelligent tourism” makes all this possible.

“Intelligent tourism” is to realize integration of the tourism and technologies by using modern information technologies, such as the "Internet of Things" and "Cloud Computing" so that tourists can easily get tourism information and meet their individual demands by using terminal equipment, such as the iPad and mobile phone.

“China’s  Intelligent Tourism Silk Road Industry Union” is launched by more than 50 tourism administration bureaus from northwest China, scenic spots, and tourism enterprises in Silk Road Intelligent Tourism Forum on June 18, 2015. The union helps its members work together to develop Silk Road tourism by sharing resources, and promoting tourism products for each other, Sun Xiaoqiang, Secretary of Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of CPC Dunhuang Municipal Committee told People’s Daily Online.

Apart from developing Silk Road tourism, Dunhuang also tries to protect its cultural heritage by using technology. “Digitalizing Dunhuang” is a good example as to protecting cultural heritage, says He Xiaozu, deputy director of Gansu Provincial Tourism Administration Bureau.

“Digitalizing Dunhuang” is a project to produce digital image of the sculptures, cave paintings and other cultural relics in Mogao grottos situated in Dunhuang in northwest China’s Gansu province, whose exquisite Buddhist sculptures and cave paintings are vulnerable to damage from capricious weather and large numbers of tourists. “Digitalizing Dunhuang” can enable people to appreciate the panorama of the Sculptures and paintings of the Mogao grottos online (http://tour.dha.ac.cn/quanjing/index.html) and watch movies about Mogao grottos in Dunhuang Mogao grottos Digital Exhibition Center.
