BEIJING, Dec. 3-- Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday extended condolences to Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan over a bomb attack in the African country that killed at least 120 people.
At least 270 others were wounded in the incident, which occurred during Friday's congregational prayers at a major mosque in the northwestern state of Kano.
The Nigerian president has ordered a full-scale investigation and reiterated the government's determination to fight terrorism.
At a press briefing on Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said Beijing "strongly condemns and firmly opposes terrorism in any form."
"We felt deeply shocked and saddened at the attack, which caused many civilian casualties," she said, adding that China will continue to support Nigeria's efforts to safeguard national security and stability.
