Istiqlal Mosque is Indonesia's national mosque and one of the greatest mosques in Southeast Asia.
Istiqlal Mosque was built in 1979, occupying a total of 93,400 square meters. Its major body is the 10,000 square-meter central prayer hall, which is covered by a white and round roof with a diameter of 45 meters.
The central prayer hall is surrounded by 5 annex buildings. Each building has a capacious and bright corridor. The whole building was built with marbles. It has 4,400 marble pillars in all.
All the important activities and ceremonies in Indonesia are held here. Indonesia's President and other politicians go to the mosque during holidays. Istiqlal Mosque can accommodate 100,000 guests at the same time.
