INCHEON, South Korea, Sept. 22 -- China continued its impressive performance in the pool at the Munhak Park Tae-hwan Aquatic Center on Monday as its synchronized swimming team took the second gold in team event.

The Chinese scored 94.3333 points in Monday's free routine to extend their advantage to more than four points after Japan earned 92.0333 points for their performance in the free routine.

"We had planned to get more momentum in the performance and we did as we should do," said Japanese swimmer Yukiko Inui, who got a silver in the duets event.

"This is not a bad result. We have more confidence after these Games although we do have more to improve in the future," added Inui.

Chinese swimmer Chen Xiaojun said she was happy to win gold along with the "young but great" team.

"A gold medal at the Asian Games is a recognition of our team at the continental stage," said Chen.

As for their Japanese counterpart, Chen admitted that they will remain a strong competitor for China.

"We have to work harder and keep improving," she said.
