US Warplanes Renew Attacks on Kandahar, Kabul

US warplanes renewed pre-dawn air raids Tuesday on the southern Afghan city of Kandahar, the Taliban stronghold, the Qatar-based Al-Jazeera satellite TV reported.

Earlier in the day, reports reaching here said that US warplanes resumed their air attacks Tuesday on the Afghan capital of Kabul, dropping at least one bomb on the outskirts of the city.

The fresh US attacks came as US Attorney General John Ashcroft issued a new terrorism alert for possible attacks against US targets and interests "over the next week".
