Hi-tech Imports & Exports Grow Steadily

Imports and exports of hi-tech products in China totaled nearly 50 billion U.S. dollars in the first half of this year, up 31.4 percent and 27.4 percent, respectively from a year ago.

The growth value of hi-tech exports accounted for 48.7 percent of the total growth value of China's exports during the same period, sources with related departments said here Thursday.

Computer and telecommunications exports hit some 15.6 billion U. S. dollars, maintaining steady growth among all other hi-tech exports.

Hi-tech materials took a lion's share of all imports in the country, witnessing an annual growth of 74.8 percent.

Experts said that China should enhance the quality and competitiveness of electronics exports, as a trade deficit of over 8 billion U.S. dollars was seen in this field.
