Global Management Introduced to ChinaThe 2001 Global Management Challenge (GMC) China Opening Ceremony took place yesterday in the capital city of Sichuan Province in Southwest China, according to today's China Daily. It was the first time that a GMC China opening ceremony has been held in western China, said David Shi, secretary-general of the GMC China Organizing Committee Secretariat. Deemed the Olympics in the international management sector, the GMC aims to standardize the management level of modern enterprises worldwide. The core of the GMC is to take advantage of computer simulation systems to imitate the stiff competition between enterprises in the market. It has been an important teaching method for training students in the field of business management as well as managers of enterprises, said Wu Yongke, director of the Training Department of the State Economic and Trade Commission and Honourable Chairman of GMC China Organizing Committee. China, Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Australia, Germany, Morocco, Mexico and Portugal are participants of the GMC. China participated in the first GMC in 1996. Last year, Chinese teams won two first prizes, one second prize and two third prizes in the GMC. The attraction of the GMC lies in innovation, Shi said. To imitate the change in the market brought about by the booming development of information technology, international experts in the GMC Organizing Committee have included e-commerce in the software for this year's GMC. While making marketing decisions, teams participating in the GMC will have to take into consideration the e-commerce market and sell products through the Internet in addition to considering local, domestic and international markets, he said. Two hundred and fifty-six teams have entered their name for the 2001 GMC China Opening Ceremony. The champion will represent China in the final competition to be held in Europe.
