Most Chinese Enterprises Staff in World Trade Center Proved Safe
Latest news from New York say that only one Chinese person was injured and the disastrous attacks claimed no other casualty of all 15 China's mainland funded enterprises in the World Trade Center. While of the five Taiwan funded banks there, two persons have lost touch with and not clear about the other Taiwanese businessmen.
The Chinese consulate general in New York has issued an urgent notice, condemning the terrorist attacks and expressing its deep sympathy and solicitude for the wounded Chinese, family members of the working staffs, and the terrified overseas Chinese. The Chinese consulate general in New York also opened special telephone lines for connection to overseas Chinese, Chinese expatriates and Taiwan compatriots and will offer them necessary help.
Wang Yingfan, the Chinese permanent representative to the United Nations, conveyed President Jiang Zemin's sympathy and concern for all Chinese in the US. He also strongly condemned the terrorist attacks at several places in the United States.

| New York World Trade Center
Situating in south of Manhattan downtown area, New York World Trade Center is the highest building of New York City. The whole architectural complex is composed by five buildings. The main building, two twin towers, are 110-storey skyscrapers which is 411 meters in height. The Center was designed by a Japanese architect and the construction was firstly started in 1966, completed in 1973.
The office area of the Center is about 840,000 square meters. It can contain 50,000 staff working inside. There are more than 800 companies in the Center with information center, research room and trade center serving their clients. The whole building is equipped with 104 elevators and a parking lot designed for 2,000 cars.
