Senior CPC Official Meets Australian Guest

Jia Qinglin, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met Monday with Robert James Lee Hawke, former prime minister of Australia.

Jia, also secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC, said that Hawke, as an old friend of the Chinese people, has done a lot to promote Sino-Australian friendship.

Jia thanked Hawke for his support to Beijing's bid to host the 2008 Olympic games.

Hawke said that the joint concert by the world's top three tenors at the Forbidden City in Beijing Saturday was a great success. He said he was glad to revisit China.
