Choi Kyung-won Named New Justice Minister

South Korean President Kim Dae-jung Wednesday appointed Choi Kyung-won as new justice minister.

The appointment came a few hours after Ahn Dong-soo, who was named justice minister Monday, resigned Wednesday morning, due to strong criticism from the opposition Grand National party and local media over his expression "re-creation of government power and loyalty to President Kim.

Choi, 55, is a native of Seoul and graduated from Seoul National University.

He served as the first vice justice minister under the incumbent government before resigning from the post in June 1999.
