Taiwan Railways to Use Mainland-Made Rails

A cargo vessel from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) carrying 5,054 tons of steel rails made by the mainland of China left a port in Liaoning Province recently, heading for Kaohsiung Port, Taiwan Province.

The rails, manufactured by a factory under the Anshan Steel Group, are the first batch of mainland-made heavy rails to be used in the construction of the annular railways in Taiwan, according to sources from the mainland steel group.

The Angang International Trade Company won the open bid, defeating international competitors including those from the Republic of Korea and Japan.

According to the contract, the group will sell 12,600 tons of heavy rails to Taiwan.
