Kunming Railway Station to Be Expanded

Expansion of the Kunming Railway Station, a major transportation hub in southwest China, commenced on Tuesday.

The expansion project, approved by the central government, is to cost 450 million yuan and will be completed in three years.

The existing station was built in the 1960s. It has five railway lines and three platforms accommodating a maximum of 1,500 passengers a day.

Under the renovation plan, four railway lines, two platforms and two luggage channels will be added.
