Hong Kong to Launch China Stock Index Futures

Sources from Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited said MSCI China Free Index Futures will be introduced for trading on Hong Kong Futures Exchange on May 7.

The MSCI China Free Index is designed as a benchmark representing Chinese companies that are available to investors outside Mainland China.

As of January 31, 2001, the index contained 30 stocks, including Hong Kong H shares adn red-chips, Shanghai B shares, Shenzhen B shares and New York-listed mainland shares, with a total market capitalization of US$75.62 billion or HK$589.83 billion.

The MSCI China Free Index is calculated in Hong Kong dollars (HKD) and published in real time every 15 seconds during Hong Kong, Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchange trading hours. The index level for the derivatives contracts is based on the MSCI China Free Index in HKD multiplied by 100.
