Daya Provided HK 10bn kwh Electricity Last YearThe Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant, located in south China's Guangdong Province bordering on Hong Kong, mainly undertakes the task of electricity supply to Hong Kong, providing Hong Kong with 10bn kwh of electricity last year.A total of 14.06 billion kwh of electricity was produced by Daya last year, exceeding the annual generation goal of 13.5bn Kwh. The load factors and capacity factors reached 85 percent and 87 percent respectively, setting a year-high record of electricity generation since the plant was built. According to related contracts, 70 percent of the electricity were transmitted to Hong Kong. Calculated on this basis, Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant had transmitted a total of 10 billion kilowatt-hours electricity to Hong Kong last year. Operating with two generating units, a satisfactory safety record has been kept by Daya since last year. By the end of January 2001, the plant has been run with a safe operation record of 1,000 days, exceeding 800 days of French standards. By its power generators' safe operation and performances, the plant has been at a world advanced level. With regard to waste control or disposal, Daya gives merely a 0.37 % rate of waste water and 1.7% of waste gas exceeding the demand set by the state and that of France. Inspection statistics by seven radiation inspecting stations within a circumference of 20 kilometers of the plant show that no change ever occurs in the original data of radioactive level to environment as found before launching of the plant into operation.
