Gujarat Disaster Management Authority Committee Formed
The Gujarat government Thursday constituted a committee for the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel to oversee and manage all type of disasters in the state.
The aim of the authority, according to the Press Trust of India, will be providing relief to the affected persons against damage caused by natural calamities and resettlement as well as reconstruction and restoration of economic and social activities, formulating programs and schemes to minimize the effect of the calamities.
It will also study cause of natural calamities and make suggestions on how to manage the situation arising out of them as well as manage and utilize grants, donation and the central government's aid for the calamities.
The state was hit by a strong earthquake on January 26, killing over 16,000 people.
