China Hopes for a Quick Reconstruction of Indian Quake-Hit State

China sincerely hopes that the people of the quake-stricken Gujerat state in north west India will overcome their present difficulties and rebuild their homes as soon as possible.

Foreign ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao made the statement in Beijing Thursday.

He says as a close neighbor of India, China is very much concerned about the disaster that has caused tremendous loss of life and property.

The Chinese government is providing materials worth 5 million

yuan, or about US$600,000, to India in an emergency humanitarian aid. These materials will be ferried there by special aircraft over the weekend.

The Chinese Red Cross Society has also offered US$50,000 in cash for assistance.
