Trade Company Manager Sentenced to Death for Corruption in Jilin

Qiao Benping, deputy manager of a state-owned international trade company in Changchun City of northeast China's Jilin Province, was sentenced to death Friday for embezzlement, misusing funds and accepting bribes valued at 15.4 million yuan (1.87 million U.S. dollars).

The Intermediate People's Court of Changchun City also ruled that all of his personnel properties are to be confiscated.

Qiao Benping, former deputy manager of Jilin International Economic and Trade Corporation, received a large sum of foreign currency as bribery in deals with overseas businessmen and transferred about 1 million yuan (120,000 U.S. dollars) from his company's account to his son's credit card account for personal use.

After the case was reported, the judicatory department seized over 1.7 million yuan and 170,000 U.S. dollars, five motor vehicles and three apartments.
