Light Railway May Link Macao With Shenzhen

A senior official said Friday that the government will soon conduct feasibility studies on building a light railway between Macao and Shenzhen city in Guangdong Province.

The government will entrust a consulting company with making the feasibility studies, said Ao Man Long, secretary for transportation and public works of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) government.

With rapid development in Guangdong Province, particularly in the western part of the Pearl River Delta, a fine transport network will be increasingly important, the official said on a public occasion .

Therefore, work will be gradually done on plans concerning the construction of light railway or other forms of high-speed transport means, he said.

In fact, Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao SAR, had talked about improving the transport network during his visit to Guangdong in July this year, Ao Man Long said.
