HSBC Launches Internet Credit Card in HK

The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC) launched its Internet credit card November 22 in Hong Kong and said it plans to issue the card globally shortly.

The card, combining a physical card and virtual account, offers cash rebate rewards, selective price discounts and a website through which cardholders can shop online and participate in online auctions.

Nick Sibley, head of Cards and Consumer Assets of the HSBC, said the new card is aimed at the Internet generation, at young people aged between 18 and 34 who are online savvy, have a sharp sense of the latest trends and fashions, and a good eye for shopping value and exclusive deals.

He pointed out that Hong Kong is one of the fastest growing Internet cities in the world, which saw a 60-percent increase in its Internet population over the past 12 months.

One out of every two people between the ages of 15 and 54 have Internet access in Hong Kong and 7 percent have shopped online, said Sibley.
