China's Largest Orchid Base Opens in Zhejiang
China's largest orchid base has opened to the public in Lanxi, Zhejiang province, a place reputed as the home of the Chinese orchid.
"China Orchid Village" as it is called, where people came for sight-seeing or orchid trading, covers 1.4 hectares and features ancient-looking architecture.
So far, about 80 orchid cultivators from Sichuan, Henan and Taiwan province have moved into the village.
The orchid has been a favorite flower of Chinese intellectuals and a symbol of refined qualities. Local residents in Lanxi has a tradition of planting orchid, which dates back about 1000 years.
