China's Annual Conscription Begins
This year's conscription was inaugurated in China Wednesday and a large number of people are expected to apply to join the army, according to military sources.
Local authorities of different levels are well-prepared for the draft this winter, the sources said.
Both the civilian and military departments concerned are expected to use the opportunity to create greater public awareness about national defense.
This year, great importance will be attached to the quality of those recruited and a supervisory system has been consolidated to prevent illegal activities in the process of the recruitment, the sources said.
