China's Mainland Excels Taiwan in Computer Hardware Output Value

According to an analytical report on the output value of information software and hardware of 1999 published by a Taiwan information industry promotion council, due to the serious outward shift of Taiwan's information technology industry, by the end of this year, the computer hardware output value of China's mainland will surpass that of Taiwan for the first time, ranking third in the world.

An official with the council has pointed out that because of the low added value and the influence of low prices of IT products, the output value of Taiwan's computer hardware has decreased year after year, with the annual increase rate standing at only about 10 percent. Meanwhile, the obvious tendency of Taiwan's IT industry shifting to the mainland has pushed the increase rate up from 29 percent of 1998 to 33 percent this year, as a consequence, the IT hardware output value of the mainland reached US$18.455 billion, jumping to the fifth placing in the world, with the growth rate reaching 30 percent.

The official said that the output value of IT hardware of China's mainland is expected to keep its 30 percent growth rate this year, thereby surpassing Taiwan to jump to the third placing in the world.
