World Technopolis Association Meeting Opens in Nanjing

World Technopolis Association Meeting Opens in Nanjing
The World Technopolis Association (WTA) Conference 2000 opened Wednesday in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province.

Minister of Science and Technology Zhu Lilan addressed the opening ceremony on behalf of Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji, saying that the Chinese government supports exchange and cooperation between cities and countries in the realm of science and technology.

She also expressed the hope that this conference will help accelerate the industrialization of high-tech results.

Founded in 1998, WTA is the first international organization in the world mainly consisting of local governments. It is aimed at promoting high-tech exchange and cooperation between different cities.

A total of 59 cities in 28 countries and regions, as well as some international organizations, sent delegations to the conference.

Simultaneously, a high-tech achievement exposition was unveiled in Nanjing, a city with a strong scientific and technological background.
