Palestinians, Israel To Resume Final-Status Talks Soon

Palestinian-Israeli final status talks would restart soon in the region, Palestinian Chief Negotiator Saeb Erekat said Sunday.

In an interview with Voice of Palestine radio Sunday morning, Erekat said that contacts are underway with the Israeli side on the suitable date for the re-launch of the marathon negotiations to tackle such key issues as the fate of Jerusalem, refugees, Jewish settlements, border, water and security.

But he did not give further details.

Last Sunday, the Palestinian leadership decided to delay the statehood declaration and agreed to resume peace talks with Israel, which have been stalled since the collapse of the Camp David talks in July.

Over the past few days, U.S.-hosted separate talks in New York and Washington failed to achieve a breakthrough.
