CMC Vice-Chairman Meets Lao Minister

Chi Haotian, vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission, said Tuesday that China and Laos should always be "good neighbors and good friends."

Chi, also a state councilor and defense minister of China, told visiting Lao Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Choumali Saignakon that China is satisfied with the development of its relations with Laos. He expressed his hope that relations between the two countries will grow to a new level.

Lao President Khamtay Siphandone reached consensus with Chinese President Jiang Zemin on the further expansion of bilateral ties when he visited China in July, and the two sides should make efforts to translate the consensus into actions, Chi noted.

Choumali Saignakon congratulated the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army of China. He said he was confident that military cooperation between Laos and China will see further expansion.
