Chinese Army Day Marked in Wellington

Senior Colonel Xu Haichao, military attache of the Chinese Embassy in Wellington, gave a cocktail party Tuesday to celebrate the founding anniversary of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).

New Zealand Minister of Defense Mark Burton, Chief of Defense Force Air Marshal C. W. Adamson, Secretary of Defense G. Fortune and high-ranking officers of New Zealand Army, Airforce and Navy attended the party.

Also present were diplomatic envoys and military attaches of a number of foreign countries, and leading members of the New Zealand-China Friendship Society and overseas Chinese organizations.

Chinese Ambassador to New Zealand Chen Wenzhao was present.

Speaking at the party, both Xu Haichao and Adamson expressed their desires to promote the friendship and understanding between the PLA and New Zealand Defense Force for the common purpose of maintaining peace and stability in Asia-Pacific region.
