"Fengyun 2" Sends Back First Visible Light Cloud Picture
At 1:31 (Beijing time) July 6 afternoon, National Satellite Meteorological Center received the first visible light cloud picture sent back by " Fengyun 2" B static meteorological satellite. Seen on the picture are the eastern coast of Africa, the whole Indian Ocean, western part of the Pacific Ocean, the entire area of Asia and the Australian Continent with China lying on the middle-upper part of the picture.
Wen Kegang, Director of China Meteorological Administration announced that the cloud picture is clear and good in quality. It shows that "Fengyun 2" satellite multi-channel scanning radiometer works all right, and satellite directive and data receiving station operate well.
Analysis of the cloud picture by meteorologists present on the occasion tells that a frontal cloud is affecting the vast area from Russian Baykal across the west Mongolia to the eastern part of China's Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and another cyclone cloud is influencing northeast and north China, the Yellow and Huai River area, the Yangtze and Huai river area and China's southwestern region. In addition, No. 3 typhoon on the surface of northwest Pacific Ocean and No.4 tropical windstorm cloud-cluster on the eastern surface of South China Sea are also clearly visible.
