National College Entrance Exams Start Today

The long-awaited three-day national college entrance examination started today, with some 3.88 million Chinese students taking part, 485,000 more than that of last year.

The exams in this most populous country are usually held every year, on July 7-9.

Chinese universities will enroll 2.04 million students this year, which means about 52.5 percent of the exam participants will have the chance to continue their study.

According to the China's Central Meteorological Station, weather conditions in most parts of the country will be favorable during the exams.

Examination venues are trying to do what they can to ensure that examinees are able to do their best in the exams.

Meanwhile, parents are expending a great deal of energy trying to ease their children's stress.

The exams also bring about some good business opportunities for the hotels, restaurants, tourist agencies, hospitals and even theaters.

China, in its drive to modernization, has made every effort to improve its education of higher learning.
