China Drafting Rules On Internet Copyrights
China is drafting rules on Internet copyrights to fill the current legal vacuum and prevent piracy of literary works, China Daily reported today.
The vacuum of Internet copyright law has led to dozens of copyright disputes over recent years with the rapid proliferation of Internet in China.
Wang Haopeng, director of the National Copyright Administration 's copyright department, said that the administration is trying its best to come up with rules governing on-line publication as soon as possible.
The rules would set up a legal framework for copyright-disputes solving by giving a clearer definition of websites' publishing rights. The audio/video sector will also be covered, the newspaper said.
But an amendment to the copyright law may take a while in coming. "A temporary regulation would help a lot," Wang was quoted as saying. He didn't specify an exact timetable for it.
