More Educational Spending for Beijing Children

A recent survey shows that Beijing residents spent more on children's education as compared with the national average last year.

Experts attribute this to the importance Beijing citizens attach to education, their relatively higher income and the high cost of education in general.

Parents of primary and high school students also spent more on their children's extra-curricular activities - including music, painting, computers and sports.

The average expenditure of a college student in Beijing was 9,428 yuan, or 1,136 U.S. dollars, with tuition and board the biggest expense.
