Senior Party Official Meets Swedish Deputy PM

Jia Qinglin, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met Monday with visiting Swedish Deputy Prime Minister Lena Hjelm-wallen.

Jia, also secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, noted that the Chinese and Swedish economies are complementary in many ways, and that world-famous Swedish companies such as Ericcson and ABB have established various forms of cooperative links with Beijing.

He welcomed the Swedish deputy prime minister to the Beijing High-and-New Technology Week which opened here today, and said it will further promote bilateral cooperation.

Hjelm-wallen complimented Jia on Beijing's vast changes in recent years, saying that many Swedish companies are intensely interested in developing business in China. There exist great potential for cooperation in trade and industry, she said.

The Swedish deputy prime minister arrived here yesterday for a seven-day visit at the invitation of Chinese Vice Premier Wu Bangguo.
