Vice President Urges the Study of Jiang Zemin's Remarks on Party RolesVice President Hu Jintao has urged the study of President Jiang Zemin's recent remarks on the leading role of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in all fields and at different periods of time.Hu made the remark during his lately inspection tour in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, a predominately Muslim region of northwest China. During his trip, the vice president, who is a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, talked with local people on various issues including enterprise reform, fighting corruption, the rural economy, and environmental protection. In his talks, Hu reiterated the importance of studying the essence of Jiang's remarks on the CPC, who has always met the requirements for the development of China's advanced productivity, led the orientation of the development of advanced culture, and represented the fundamental interests of the Chinese people. The study of Jiang's remarks, which was made during a south China tour, should be integrated with the study of Deng Xiaoping Theory, Hu noted. The ongoing ideological education drive within the Party should be regarded as a long-term task, he said. Hu urged that great importance be given to strengthening Party organizations in state-owned enterprises that have been closed or have gone bankrupt, so as to ensure smooth closure and bankruptcy proceedings. Speaking of the current anti-corruption campaign, Hu said that an effective supervisory and control system must be created in order to eliminate the soil and conditions out of which corruption grows.
