Three primary school students drowned after falling into a pool in Heilongjiang province on Wednesday, Shenghuo News reported.

The accident occurred around 11 am when eight primary school students were catching frogs at a 300-square-meter-pool in Hulan district in Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang. Another student also fell into the water but managed to climb out, the report said.

Having heard cries for help, villagers nearby jumped into the pool and retrieved three students from the bottom of the water.

The students died at a local hospital.

The three victims were all boys.

Drowning cases are often reported at this time of the year, when Chinese students are on summer vacation.
