A Beijing school has been recognized by a global education group for its work with migrant children.
The Tongxin Experimental Primary School in Beijing was nominated for the 2013 World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) released on June 18 in Doha, Qatar.
The school, founded in 2005, is dedicated to educating migrant children in Beijing. It is also the first time that an education program from China was among the 15 nominees.
The nomination highlighted the school's ability to utilize financial resources to their utmost in providing an education for over 10,000 children from 10 communities heavily populated with migrant workers.
WISE was established by the Qatar Foundation in 2009 as an international non-profit platform for creative thinking, debate and purposeful action in order to build the future of education through innovation.
The 15 nominated programs were selected from 519 applications worldwide. The 2013 WISE Summit will be held in Doha on Oct 29 to 30 and will award six programs that will each receive $20,000.
